Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
10 January, 2008

I’ve struggled to get anything to show for this week. I had to lower my sights to stations with just more than one reported contact!

It seems as though Sunday was a good day, but in reality only PZ5YV was doing any good (relatively) as did MJ/F5CWU (Jersey Island) on Friday. C4EURO (Cyprus) is a special station celebrating (??) the change of currency to the Euro. The rest are the usual suspects.

Most popular DX

Monday: NN4F, DL6LW, K5PEW, AI4WB, DC7TS, AA9L.

Tuesday: ZR1ADI, NS4R, DK9UW, KE4WBO, VE2PEP, KQ4PK, F5VLY, DH3RD.

Wednesday: No stations with more than one contact reported!!

Thursday: SA6A, OZ5BD, SP8IML, OZ1GX, DK9UW, SK2AT, OH6QU, SM6CTQ, PU2VIR.

Friday: MJ/F5CWU, DF0LS, W3ZKY, OZ1MAX, KI4TZU, DO1SC, DJ2OR.

Saturday: C4EURO, DF0LS, RZ9OO, PU1BRA, DH8SL, DL2IAN, EA4CJA, G0SXC, UA0BA, DH2DAM, DH3RD, DJ4WT, G0UNJ, KQ6PK, RA6YY, RW3DD, SQ9MEE, VK4CQ.

Sunday: PZ5YV, DF0LS, PU2LSM, JE1LET, DK9UW, G0UNJ, C4EURO, DL0MVB, EA3BCK, G0SXC, IZ7CDB, M0ZOV/M, RK3EWA, S57S, VK3FPG, VK4APE, VR2CB, YV4DYJ, DH2DAM, DH3RD, DJ5JD, DO7JSZ, JG2TKH, JP1GUW, KN4OK, PY2EX, PY2XC, PY5HOT, RU3EJ, SQ9DJG, UA4RC, VK4IM, VK4TGV, ZL2SP.

Carl, VH2CB reports working VK4CQ on Saturday and JH1CML 58, JA4GXX 59, JA2NVM 58, JA2DYI 58, C4EURO 57, JQ1IBJ 56, JE3MTQ 58, JG2TKH 55, C4EURO 58 on Sunday. His comments seem to typify conditions. “Saturday conditions for me were very poor, only one station heard/worked (VK4CQ) and then only just. Sunday conditions seemed the same until mid afternoon when JA stations (via sporadc E?) came in very strong. The big surprise was when C4EURO suddenly appeared for a few minutes, peaking S8 - that day I never heard or worked any other non JA stations before or after the C4EURO QSO.”

Big Dave, VK5MRD keeps the activity going with BG7NWF 5/5, ZL2PW 5/5, ZL2CWL 5/5, ZL2AIS 5/5. But now he’ll have to slow down, “Wednesday heard VK9ZLH 5/5 another great day on 10m here in VK land. Sporadic e from VK5 to VK`s 1,2,3,4,6 and 7.
I am back to work now so will not be so active but will keep a listen out over the weekends.”

Wrong!! Calling is required, listen after calling CQ. Thursday he worked ZL1CZ 5/5, ZL1UPB 5/8, heard VK9ZLH 5/9. Shame you got to go back to work.

Contests: DARC 10m Contest, Sunday 09:00 to 11:00 (why??) and the Dutch Midwinter contest 08:00 to 14:00, also Sunday. And that’s about it.

Sun: Ain’t no sunspots since whenever, again. But NASA scientists tracking asteroid 2007 WD5 say it will not hit Mars on Jan. 30th. "The impact probability has dropped dramatically, to approximately 0.01% or 1 in 10,000 odds, effectively ruling out the possible collision," according to an update issued yesterday by JPL's Near Earth Object Program Office.
