Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
22 January, 2008

It doesn’t take a trained observer to see that Tuesday was the only really good day in the past week. Mainly European stuff, but good to see the Gs and Ms in there at last. J5C was active all week and very popular

Most popular DX. (3 or more contacts)

Monday: J5C, OH3GBS, OH3JN.

Tuesday: 5Q2J (Denmark), 4O3A (Montenegro), T77NM (San Marino), DL1EJA, M3WUH, MM5DWW, OK1GI, HB9CEX, RK2FWA, SQ9DJG, 9A9YY, DF1LON, EI9FBB, OE4 EMS, S57S, HG0R, SP6 KEP, SQ9MEE, DO5OT, G0UIQ, G0UNJ, IZ5 ICH, OK1OUE, OK4RQ, OL600VB, PU1PJR, UV5EOZ, GI7AXB, IZ6GSQ, LA1TNA, LA3 ANA, OE2 SCM, OM5PM, PD1DX, PE1OLM, SP2JMB, YU5B, 9A3BCG, DD3DJ, DK8NC, DL1REM, DL2AAZ, DL5 KSS, DO3 ASE, DO7 NPK, EA1EVS, EW6BN, F4FDA, F4JVG, G0GFQ, G0LGS, G6 CRV, G7IZR, GM7NVA, HB9TVS, IW2NBW, IZ1MLQ, IZ2KTE, IZ5EME, K8RDD, LA4GPA, M0BPQ, M0BSV, M0CCQ, M0 CHK, M0 NTI, OZ2OSR, OZ5RZ, PA3HIZ, PD2J, PD4TB, PD9FJ, RW3DD, SM2LIY, SQ9MEE, VK4CQ.

Wednesday: WZ0O, UV5EOZ, PU1PJR, KC2 PBR.

Thursday: WZ0O, KI4ACW, DF8AE.

5VJ was miss-heard by 3 different stations on Tuesday. AD 5VJ was active but not on 10m. 5V ( Togo) would have been real DX if the call was complete.

VK5 MRD, Big Dave also had a good Tuesday. He worked “Too many VKs to mention” and heard KQ6PK 3/3, ZL3DO 4/5, JG3MBL 5/5, BA8AG 5/5, ZL3 TEN Bcn 5/9, ZL2MHF Bcn 5/9.

VR2KM, Chen, heard IK0YKM and IZ5IYM on Sunday and said that they were very strong.

On Friday Big Dave reported,
The only international stations I worked today was ZL3AT 28.480 but I did hear a weak Italian station on 28.490 and a few JA and China stations. Also a weak Californian Beacon. As usual the Sporadic E around VK has been fantastic. I have been working VK2,3,4,6 and 7 on 29MHz FM Simplex and on SSB I have worked all States. I don’t get much time on the radio as I work permanent shift work but I try my best and usually grab about 20 to 40 contacts on 10m SSB. I can’t wait for the longer F layer conditions to come in.” Yes I think we would all echo Dave’s feelings there.

Saturday he heard ZL4CZ 5/5, ZL2SP 5/5, VR2CB 5/5, BA8AG 5/7, BG7NWF 5/7, 9W2DRL 5/5, and worked ZL1AA 5/9+10, ZL1UPB 5/9+10 and Carl, VR2CB! Sunday he bagged JA1KNY 5/7, JA2NVM 5/9+10, 6K5BHZ 5/7, VK8VTX 5/9, VK8NSB 5/9+10 plus many other VKs. As a last fling on Sunday he gasped in with
I am so happy to say that I have just worked I5 KAP in Pisa Italia. 28.485MHz he was 5/4. I am so very happy as this is my first contact into Italy this year and so early into the new cycle too.”

On Saturday Carl, VR2CB worked BU2AQ 5/8 , VK4CQ 5/5, VK2GWK 5/5, VK4FEAT 4/5, VK3KDL 3/3 and Sunday VK4NDX 44 , VK6HAM 53, VU2DSI 33, VK4CQ 57. And yes popped in amongst the VKs are VU2DSI and BU2AQ. It’s a long time since I worked Datta, VU2DSI.
I think I was GW4CJC then.

G4TUT has had computer problems this past week so the updates to his website have been difficult. It seems to be fixed at the moment. He may have splashed out on a new computer.

Contests: Not much again, but there is the UBA (Belgian) DX contest from 13:00 Saturday to 13:00 Sunday.

Sun: Despite the much publicised reverse polarity sunspot seen on 4 January 2008 which officially began Cycle 24, today the sun is blank, yet again.

‘TUT is still not transmitting, in fact he’s getting a bit wee’d off at me nudging him to get on the air. Gentle persuasion I call it. I’ll have try putting something in his beer such as antenna wire or a microphone.
