Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
25 April 2007
Well, now I’m back from Oz. There are still a few
bars and restaurants in Sydney that I haven’t been in, so damit,
I’ll have to go again!! Wonderful city!
My son has found himself a 'beaut of a sheila' named Michelle
- smart lawyer, owns property and is she a looker. I just hope he can
hang onto her.
I
went to see the guys from the Waverly Amateur Radio Society, VK2BV.
They meet in Centennial Park on Sunday mornings and on Tuesdays all day
at the scout hall, Rose Bay.
It’s a venue with fantastic views over the bay, flying
boats, pelicans and lots more.
Check their website out at www.VK2BV.org.
They operate VK2ROT which is a repeater on 2m and 70cm with IRLP capability.
And so onto the Ten Metre Band. Needless to say I didn’t take any
10m gear with me to Oz, but judging by the reports on the internet I have
not missed much. Here is the past week’s collection.

5H0RS (Tanzania) was also listed on Monday but withdrawn,
I wonder why? However 5H3VMB, also Tanzania, definitely
takes the accolade for most stations worked on Saturday and Sunday.
TG0WARD is genuine. It’s The GUATEMALA DX GROUP
(GDXG), collaborating with the Club de Radioaficionados de Guatemala,
(CRAG) As a member of the International Amateur Radio Unión, (IARU),
it was activating the special callsign TG0WARD, (World Amateur Radio Day),
granting a commemorative diploma for that date.
Contests: There doesn’t seem to be many SSB contests
on at the moment, quite a few CW though. The Helvetia (Swiss) contest
from 13:00 Saturday to 13:00 Sunday is SSB, CW and Digi.
Sun: Although the sun is blank again today it won't
stay that way for long. A new and active sunspot is about to rotate into
view over the sun's eastern limb. This seems to have been the longest
stretch of blank suns for a long time.
Still
no news on my beam. Just bought a new car so I’ll have to slow peddle
on the new beam for a while, bit of a waste to buy when conditions are
so poor?
I spotted this café whilst waiting for an old friend at Circular
Quay in Sydney.
Must be the meeting place for Radio Hams, surely.
