Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
02 April , 2008

Not a bad week for the rest of the world. Wednesday was a cracker and the weekend was the CQ WW PX contest. There was quite a bit of DX about. What more can I say, except that there isn’t a single UK station in the lists!!

I heard almost nothing, more of which later. Just feast your eyes on this lot. From the European point of view the Italians probably had the best week.

G3YYDs antennas

I myself worked Martin, G4FKK in Carshalton in Surrey (across London) and G3YYD, David in St Albans about 15km away, real DX.

Both were using more power than me and with bigger antennas. And that’s all.

Not so for some, who shall be named.

Dave, VK5MRD’s week went as follows.
Monday: "10m was not very good today, no international DX anyway. However I was able to grab a brief Sporadic E opening into VK2 (New South Wales). Heard:- JA2IGY Bcn but was very weak. Worked:- VK2KCD, VK2DQC”

Wednesday: “Not much around at the moment however I did manage to work a couple of stations. Heard:- JD1BMM, JA2IGY Bcn Worked:- JA5CTW, 9W2MZY”

He sent it to me twice, saying his computer froze but I think he was trying double up his contacts!

Friday: “A few new ones for me today and I hope a sign of things to come! Heard:- K5AB, KQ6PK, AH6RR, TI5KMK, LU9ESD, JA2IGY Bcn. Worked:- KG6POG, WA7NB, W6VA, V73PX, JH9FNB, JE1QUR, JA2ZS, JA0AVS, JA2DYI, JA6DSG and VK2HV on Back Scatter. Some very strong stations in that bunch, JA and the US at the same time 5/9+. Also 9W2OO and VK2YBZ on back scatter.”

Saturday was a good one:
Heard:- XV1X, BP0P also heard VK2CA on Back Scatter, I did hear a TI station in Costa Rica but he was too weak to work. Brian G8VPR agrees with me,
“Every day totally dead”.

2E0SDE, Tim, says
Worked 5T5DC 5/9 Heavy QSB He comments: 26/03/08 At last after hours of monitoring 10m I finally heard and worked 5T5DC still NIL from 9X0R on 10m from Coventry”.
Welcome Tim, your first report I think.

KE5GBC says
“YN2N had a super pile up going. I could hear him on 28.325 but he was
busy. I could not find anything else on the band.73”
Thanks for those observations Mike.

Finally from Ian, VK1DI,
“Heard: YJ8TZ 5/9, NR6O 5/7, KJ5W 5/7, KE5CIF 5/5. “All CQ WPX Contest stations. Nice to hear USA on 10m again.”

Contests: A bit down compared to last week but we have the SP DX Contest 15:00 Saturday to 15:00 Sunday (maybe, I have little information). There are one or two “sprints” and “QSO parties” but not much else.

Sun: Spots 997 and 998 are about to rotate round to the other side of the sun. Everything else is fairly quiet.

A long report this week, enough!
