Sunday's map

Ronald, ZB3B in Gibraltar sent me his Thursday list.
KY4BP 5/7, K4KV 5/9, K4CVL 5/8, KB9MIE/4 5/7, K3ZXL 5/9, KU4XO 5/5, KJ3L 5/5, W4HX 5/7, K5EK 5/9+, WA8QYJ 5/9, W4GHW 5/5, KD4WQT 5/5, KJ4QCL 5/7,W4HG 5/9, WC5N 5/7, KT4MM 5/7, KJ4CXZ 5/5.

He said, “Conditions were acting quite strangely over here on 10 meters, so I was hearing a few South Americans, then all of a sudden, the south Americans were fading in the qsb, all of a sudden I started to hear several stations from Florida, so I decided to go to 28.450, & give out a few calls, to which on my second call I got a reply from KY4BP, to which a pile up followed.

After 40 minutes working the states, conditions faded, & nothing else was heard from here ( IM76HD )on 28 MHz.” Thanks for the report Donald and keep them coming. I wonder how you did in the contest over the weekend.

Here is VK5MRD’s report.
“Saturday 27/03/2010. Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b, JR0YAN, KH6AP/b, VR2B/b, RR9O/b, YB9BWN/b and VK8VF/b. Stations worked were:- UA9MC, UA9PC and RZ0AF.I know the band has been wide open but no such luck getting near the radio. I heard that last night the 28th was also wide open to EU with quite a few EU countries with very loud signals into VK!”

Well you missed out on a good one, Dave. Got to get your priorities sorted!

Sun: Yesterday in new Mexico, a startling roar issued from the loudspeaker of amateur astronomer Thomas Ashcraft's radio telescope.

"It was sunspot 1057," he says. "All day long it had been producing small radio bursts around 21 MHz. Then, at 1813 UT, it let loose a big one. The burst only lasted a minute, but it saturated the radios.

Stoke duly beat West Ham but it was a poor game with poor finishing from both sides, except for a stunning solo effort from Ricardo Fuller to win us the match.

The wife comes back from Hong Kong this Friday so I’d better tidy the chip papers and beer bottles away, have shower and a shave and buy some real food. BA have cancelled her flight so goodness knows when she will get back!
