Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
26 August 2006
Eagle-eyed readers will have spotted the lack of updates
for the past week or so.
Two main reasons, I’m not at my own QTH and there
has been little activity discernable at this location in Almeria (EA7).
I have the kit, TS430S, MFJ 9648 Versa Tuner II, triband
vertical and time (loadsatime).
I did work a few stations, 4L0ABC, PA0FAO, ES15L and Roy,
EA7/G3KDY who is an expat living near here in Oria. He has a sked with
G0WHX on 28,350, but I’ve yet to find him.
I did work loads of EAs in the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall)
Contest last weekend but on 15m, so they don’t count. Even 15 and
20 haven’t been as lively as I’ve known in the past.
I also worked John, EA7/M0PDG on 20m. He is at the top of
the Cabrerra pass, way high up, but I can see his QTH from here low down
in the valley. The views from up there are fantastic and so is the take
off for radio. Unfortunately John is somewhat restricted as to his antenna
system. At the moment he uses a half size G5RV but even with just 100W
he can work most every thing.
I haven’t got him onto Ten Metres yet. I have the
camera with me but not the cable to connect it to the PC so you’ll
have to wait for the pictures of the stunning view from up there.
There are three 2m repeaters that I can get into but most
of the day they are silent. I’ve called in English and Spanish but
with no takers.
I’m using a TH-F7E with a dual band co-linear. I cannot
hear anything on 70cm at all.
I could fill in the space talking about the cricket but
I think it’s all been said. As for umpire Haire saying he’ll
retire if given the right incentive, that’s what happens all the
time in lots of industries and particularly in senior positions. Early
retirement I recommend to anyone who can afford it, nothing wrong with
that!!
