Tony's 10 Metre Band Report (from Spain)
14 August, 2007
Very little activity so far here in Cortijo Grande, Turre,
Costa de Almeria.
The Satellite TV is not functioning so I didn’t get
the cricket commentary, the mobile phone reception is marginal and variable
but I did manage to get the final cricket score that way. BBC World service
is chaotic in its frequency hopping and swapping, with hardly any consistent
UK news or sport.
I did manage a contact with GB5GW, operated by Andrew.
This is the Blackwood (South Wales) special event station and is on the
air to the end of August I think.
GW4BLE Steve, who I’ve not seen for years, will
operate the call sign GW6GW and, as Steve is a 10m fan,
not to mention the winner of many Ten Metre awards, we could have a certain
amount of activity guaranteed.
I also contacted G4DBL Tim, but conditions changed quickly
and I’ve not heard anything now for 3 days. I’m using the
TS430S and a sloping half wave dipole. Even 2m and 70cm activity is low.
Still the sun is shining and the Mazda RX8 is running fine.

now gone. Photo G4TUT |
Just before I left the UK, I did get a reports from a couple of stations
and I will record those when I get back.
I was lucky enough to see a good Perseids show, eleven in the first hour
and a half, much better that last year. It did help that the moon was
new and not actually up where I am. One particular comet streak covered
almost one third of my visible sky
