Tony's 10 Metre Band Report   (from 'sunny' Spain)
28 August, 2007

And Bigears said “When the weather is this bad Noddy, it’s time to go home” and so they did.

Mind you Noddy had his tent blown off in the night. I shall make no comment as to my circumstances. But conditions are really poor - see the picture below of the clouds over the Cabrerra Mountain in Almeria.

“And what of Ten Metres?” said Noddy. Bigears’ reply was along the lines of where Noddy could reposition the 10m loading coil to give maximum effect!

To be fair I3CGV, John in Asiago, has been the only station I’ve heard or worked in three days. He is one determined SOB (Serious Operator Bloke, well what else could it be?) He’s been on every day for the past week calling and calling. And not working much (except me) and he’s got a 6-ele monobander so what chance my sloping (wet and muddy) dipole.

England lost to India and Stoke lost to Southampton. But the guy came and replaced the Satellite STB. But guess what, because atmospheric conditions are adverse (crap weather) everyone on TV is stuttering and walking as though they are in a keystone cops film. (yes, I know they didn’t have sound but run with me on this one).

Anyway, Sunday weather is improved, cloudyish with sunnyish spells a recipe to get burned to a crisp, And we did.
HB9AFI called CQ, so did I. Bu**er all back.

Monday, glorious beltingly hot weather, so we cover up and use the factor 15 and don’t get crispy. Ha! And F5OUX with his 6-ele yagi again. What is it with folk with 6-ele yagis, it’s patently bragging. Some folk will do anything to get over an S6 static noise level and poor propagation.

I don’t know how Cortijo Grande can have an S6 noise level there are only 6 houses, a bar and a golf course. Of course there are Sicadas. And we win the 3rd 1-dayer against India (you can tell this is not pre-recorded).

Saturn is fantastic in the southern sky, even with the moon up its plainly visible naked eye and through the heat haze and water vapour with a telescope one broad band with a blob is visible.

Last report before I get back to the UK so don’t just listen on 10m, call CQ!!

And anyone who says I’ve been reading too much Rankin (Robert, not the other bloke) is dead right, I’ve taken to checking Brentford’s foot results, you never know what will sprout up do you?
