Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
21 August, 2008

Tuesday and Sunday stand out as quite extraordinary at this low point in the sunspot cycle.

The variety of DX was also surprising. Over the past months (seems like years, in fact it is years) if there has been activity on 10 Metres, then it has been localised short skip in the main. But Tuesday in particular (not a contest day or weekend) saw north, central and southern Europe, Canada, USA, Russia, South Atlantic, middle and far East but no Australasia. Sunday was similar but not so many and not so far ranging.

Most popular DX.

Jack M0PRO sent me an email a couple of weeks back. Its kind of self explanatory except for one small thing. He says,
“'I’ve been more and more active on 28 MHz lately, and I've been working a fair amount of G's and M's, it's surprising how many are actually active, especially in the evenings. I'm often to be found with a small group around 28.477.”

So far so good. He continues,
“I've set up a simple forum that
will allow Hams to discuss anything related to 28 MHz and perhaps arrange skeds. I've been working well in excess of 100 miles tropo lately, why not try it? Please show your support by registering, you have nothing to loose :-)”

and there in lies the problem.
He didn’t leave a URL for the forum. So if you read this Jack, let me know where this forum is.

This is Jack’s homebrew 5 element monobander at 15m agl.

I could give another plug for the 28_MHz Yahoo group.
However Dom VK2YDD, the owner of the group has moved house to Canberra and there is not much discussion on the group at the moment. I do post this report to the group to keep it going.

Not much else from the punters out there, it is the holiday season after all.

Contests: Saturday 0700 - Sunday 2200 Hawaii QSO Party and Ohio QSO Party Saturday 1600 - Sunday 0400.

Sun: Blank. Venus and Mercury are close at the moment. August 20th, the two planets are at closest approach - only 1º apart. To see them, look low and due west immediately after sunset. Venus pops out of the twilight first, followed by Mercury a short while after.

Stoke lost their first Premier League game at Bolton. We won the
second half 0–1, but lost the first half 3–0, doh!
First home game this weekend against Aston Villa. Its also a UK “Bank Holiday”, crazy traffic and shops closed, (I think not!!).
