Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
01 December
2006
Well, the first Ashes Test came and went. I asked my Mum,
who’s eighty one, to knit us a fast bowler. She said she would but
that it was difficult to get the quality of wool nowadays. So we still
don’t have a fast bowler. As for batsmen, if KP and Freddy ever
get in tune together, singing from the same song sheet, then watch out,
but we have to be optimistic, don’t we.
CQWW CW (a lot of Ws there) was a massive success on
10m. 1050 contacts reported on Saturday of which 26 were SSB and 1650
on Sunday of which 9 were SSB.

The results speak for themselves. During the week 5A7A (Lybia) is hands
down the most popular station. At the weekend and on CW then its HC8N
(Galapagos Is.). If only DL1XX had been active on Ten Metres on Saturday.
Did he forget about Saturday? It is good to see some ZLs and ZSs as well
as the exotic stuff like 3XD2Z (Guinea), 8Q7GL (Maldives) and 6W1RW +
6V7D (both Senegal).
A report from BigDave, no callsign, (bragging
or wishful thinking?) from Oz says he heard VK1PWE 5/9 and VK5FDMR 5/9
whilst mobile. Thanks Dave, it’s not necessary to have a licence
to report in here, so feel free to tell me what you hear. Also station
info etc, any thing really to give me/us an idea of who’s active
out there. Listeners are a valuable commodity in providing indications
of conditions.
Richard ZS6CA heard KC0UWS on Tuesday which
if you check above was a crap day for 10m so thanks for the info, as Tescos
say every little bit helps.
Lance VK6DU (and veteran of the VK9XG of 20
years ago) heard 5A7A 5/3 (along with tonks of other peeps).
And he says “I made 296 QSOs in CQWW CW contest last weekend. Had
good openings into Asia and Russia with brief opening to Europe on Saturday.”
Which is really odd as I don’t have a single report of Lance’s
call. Not that I have a foolproof or even good tracking system. I think
this just shows I need to widen my net a bit.
Contests: Needless to say it’s a tad empty of
contests this weekend. We have got the NRAU 10m contest from 18:00 to
22:00 on Thursday 7th, but in reality we will all be waiting for the ARRL
10m contest from 00:00 9th December till 24:00 on 10th December.
Sun: Sunspot 927 is chopping and changing its size and
we still have 926 facing us. Watch out for auroras, the interplanetary
magnetic field (IMF) near Earth has tilted south, opening a crack in Earth's
magnetic defences against the solar wind. This could fuel a geomagnetic
storm.
On
a bright note, my team Stoke City, the Mighty Potters,
have won 5 out of the last 5 matches and 8 of the last 10. We have the
best defence and goal difference in the Championship and we are up to
6th place having just beaten the leaders Cardiff 3-0. Southend, ‘TUTs
team, are firmly anchored at the bottom (says he doesn’t care, but
he does really).
Now you can help Tony
to compile his ten-metre report.
Tell him about any stations you've heard on the 10-metre band
in your part of the world, or tell him if you've also found
the band to be dead.
Use the form in the pop-up window to record the details of any
stations that you have heard during this week.
