Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
05 December
2006
A very thin week one way or another. Even Saturday and Sunday,
traditionally high activity days, were sparse. Plus we aren’t so
much losing the Ashes as giving them away, gift wrapped. Still, Stoke
City did set a new record, 6 successive games without conceding a goal!

I personally have not heard a station all week. From the lists it is
good to see VE, VK, ZS, XE, JA and W well represented, there’s even
the odd G in there.
Contests: The ARRL 10m Contest runs from 00:00 Saturday
9th to 24:00 Sunday 10th and being CW and Phone (yes there is AM and FM
still on 10m) should provoke some activity. Hopefully those who enjoyed
the CQWW a couple of weeks back will slam back into gear but there are
no guaranties.
Sun:
Earth-orbiting satellites detected a major X9-class solar flare this morning
(Tuesday) at 1035 UT.
The source a big, new sunspot 929, which is emerging over the Sun's eastern
limb. GOES-13 captured this X-ray image of the blast:
Because of the sunspot's location near the limb, the flare was not Earth-directed.
Future eruptions could be, however, because the Sun's spin is turning
the spot toward Earth. Sunspot 929 will be visible for the next two weeks
as it glides across the solar disk.

And this is just the biggest, coolest cane dragon you
ever saw. Needless to say the pic was taken in Seoul, South Korea. |
