Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
10 December , 2009

OK, before anyone starts thinking 'It wasn’t that bad a week', I have to tell you that I had to drop the standard to 2 or more contacts for inclusion in the list.

Even Sunday looks OK, but in reality what seemed to be happening was that there were quite a lot of people on, but only having 1 contact and then going off air.

Most popular during the week was VK9XX the Christmas Is expedition which ended on 5th Dec. There do seem to have been quite a few VKs on this week and actually ZLs as well but working only 1 contact. Our Dave VK5MRD makes into the list but only on Saturday. Guess he’s busy with family.

David, CE2WZ, has an answer as to why he didn’t work many in the previous week’s contest.
“Re your comment about quite a lot of activity over the weekend from Chile – the answer is quite simple. There were several operators taking part in the CQWW CW contest over the weekend. My CW is not fast enough for contesting and I haven’t got an interface to help me. So I didn’t take part. Conditions are still pretty much the same as we approach the weekend but we hope for better conditions for the ARRL Contest next weekend.”

Thanks for that David. I can empathise with that only my CW is not even good enough now, after years of non-practice to even have an ordinary QSO, never mind a CW contest!!

And here’s Dave VK5MRD’s explanation about the previous Saturday

Saturday 05/12/2009. Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b, ZL3TEN/b, ZL2MHF/b, ZL1AA, ZL1TAP, VK2RSY/b, VK3RMH/b, VK3RHF/repeater, VK4RTL/b, VK6RWA/b, VK6RBP/b, VK7RSC/b VK8VF/b.

Stations worked were:- ZL1ZLD, ZL2APV, ZL3NB, VK1PAR, VK2BX, VK2UZ, VK8GMT/VK2, VK2AMM, VK2ZMT, VK2GJC, VK2MJW, VK3ECH, VK3FDBF, VK3YUN, VK3BBB, VK7MAG, VK7XX, VK7FAJK and VK8NSB.

“Conditions were good today, just wish I had more time to spend on the radio. 10m has been open all week but I was not near the radio.”

It happens to the best of us.

Sun: How exciting, the sun is blank again. Never mind we have the Geminid meteor approaching. According to NASA it should be the best for a few years and could be the best meteor show of the year. The full story at Geminids

Well we lost against Arsenal, 2 good goals, no complaints. We had a few chances which if taken could have changed the face of the match. Tomo saved yet another penalty 5 out of the last 6 now. Wigan this Saturday we need the win.

The wife and grand children arrive from Hong Kong early Friday morning, so it will be mad house here until well in to the new year.
