Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
07 February
2007
Lets start with an apology to RS-15 users. I was not aware
that Radio Sputnik 15, also called Radio-Rosto (Rosto is an acronym for
Russian Defence, Sports, and Technical Organization) was still going.
It's not been in my lists before although it should be popular
for 10m DXing having a fairly wide foot print. Despite being launched
in 1994 it is still operational. Thanks to Trevor, M5AKA
for pointing that out. Its beacon can be heard on 29.3525 and 29.3987
MHz.
Not a great deal of activity again this week but as Trevor
said in his comments “Lets hope for improved band conditions. I’m
in Gran Canaria next week without any kit so no report next week. I’m
hoping for improved weather, such as warm sun and no snow!!

this is their shack. (picture right)
LQ0D is a DX’pedition by the Bahia Blanca DX Group
and Mistongo DX Tandil Group who went together to activate TRINIDAD ISLAND
(IOTA SA – 021).
I did get a report from Dom VK2YDD on Sunday 4th February
saying “The band has been fairly good here in VK2 this weekend.
Big signals from JA, China, Singapore and Korea. Nothing heard from Europe
but hope to hear something. I have only had my 2 ELE Quad up for 2 weeks
since moving QTH. So have been fairly active.” Dom worked
K1PTT, JH1HIC, JJ6VAR, JE1SDO, JG3MBL, JN1IZR, JA1HTK, 9V1PC, JE7RAP,
JR1GSH, JA2VMU, AF7DX/KH6, BG5HIS. And very nice too.
Horst, DM6HK, was the operator of DR06XVI Special Event
Station. And was active on Sunday 04.02.07 on 28480 from 0930 UTC to 11.00.
ZW150BP is a Brazilian commemorative special event for
the 150 years (February 22, 1857) from birth of Robert Stephenson Smith
Baden Powell - creator of Scouting for Boys. It will be on the air
on CW and SSB in the bands of 2, 6, 10, 15, 20, 40 and 80 meters, during
the month of February of 2007.
Contests: There is the British Columbia QSO Challenge
this weekend. 18:00 UTC Saturday to 18:00 Sunday. If you’ve not
worked VE then now’s your chance. There is also the Dutch PACC contest
from 12:00UTC Saturday to 12:00 UTC Sunday. The CX (Classic Exchange)
contest is intended for users of older rigs (or older operators??) and
runs from 14:00UTC Sunday to 08:00 UTC Monday.
Sun: Sun spots 940 and 941 will be no bother to us.
We have had some real cold frosty but clear nights. Last weekend I was
in Stoke for a soccer match (which Stoke drew) and the evening sky was
sharp and clear. Venus was extremely bright and infact the only visible
object at the time. Stoke (actually Newcastle Under Lyme is where I was)
of course has less light pollution than London where I live.
Well we made it to the final of the 3 handed cricket competition (Commonwealth
Bank). But really what does it signify? Is it good preparation for the
World Cup?
