The early part of the week was very poor with Thursday and Friday picking up slightly. Saturday and Sunday were better but hardly stunning. Some activity from Russia was evident on Saturday. The best of the DX was probably C91R, Rodrigo in Mozambique, VP8LP, Bob in the Falklands and a pair of XE1s in Mexico

He says “Due to the Chinese new Year I had three days of on/off listening & calling but little was heard (by me at least - seems all the signals were flying over or around me!) Saturday afternoon there was a strong sporadic E opening from VR2 to JA and that was about all really. And from
March onwards I expect to relocate for a while to a new QTH outside of Hong Kong, location TBC, hopefully some place rare and in demand...”. Obviously we all wish you well in the relocation and hope you will have no problems getting a rare DX call sign.
Dave, VK5MRD has been active, but not as much as he would like. He says “Until today there has not been much DX around on 10m also being at work doesn’t help much either but here is my list for today both Heard and Worked.
Heard:- KH7DX and a FK8 station.
Worked:-KQ6PK,, JA1LAS 5/9+10, JA0RYN 5/6, JA7JH 5/7, JG1SIS 5/7, JA6ETS 5/7, JA2NVM 5/7, JA1KIH 5/6, JE3MTQ 5/2, JA2FDX 5/9 and JA3JOT (pretty sure that was the call sign but it was very hard to pull it out of the QRN). Also VK`s 1,2,3,4 and 7. That is about it for now, lets hope it opens up during the week ahead.”
Nice work Dave. The only thing I’ve heard was two eastern block (Russian) stations taking about 5/8 but they couldn’t hear me (or wouldn’t let me in). Still the weather’s been nice!
Contests: Just the ARRL CW DX contest so the bottom end of the band will be full all weekend. You never know there may be some spin-off into the phone section but I’m not holding my breath.
Sun: Although the face of the sun is blank again (no sun spots) the edge of the Sun is alive with prominences today, reports Pete Lawrence of Selsey, UK. "If you have a solar telescope and clear skies, take a look at the west and south-western limb. These features are changing by the minute so you never know what you might see.” I will give that a try myself tomorrow.
That’s about all for this week. Stoke are really doing the biz. We are 4th, just 2 points behind the leaders. I shall say nothing about the 1st ODI (One Day International cricket match) against New Zealand - it’s just a glitch.
