Mike, KE5GBC’s simple report on Sunday says,
“Nothing since last report in central, Texas, USA. Band dead and buried but hope to ressurect it.73”.
That’s what I found to here in my part of the UK. Not quite true, I did have S9 noise some days.
Here’s a useful tip from Jim, W8JWA,
“Not a DX report but there is a group of hams in the Dayton, Ohio that get on 28.427 from 1330Zulu on every day to hold QSO's with the local gang in the Dayton, Ohio area. There are probably around a dozen or so on at any given time. Give a listen, if you don't hear anything at first, holler QRZ.”
Clive, M0SIX, asks,
“Thanks for the reports, but it would be useful if you would mention the frequencies you work on.”
I generally report only on frequencies used for phone in the 10m band, so approximately 28,350MHz to 29,999 MHz but mainly around 28,500 MHz. To report frequencies for each station listed would have little value as many stations move around the band. The lists themselves are in descending order of popularity (number of contacts).
Nothing this week from Dave, VK5MRD, he’s probably working too hard.
Carl, VH2CB worked VK4CQ 5/5, VK4JGH 5/7, VU2NKS 5/6, 9W2RZL 5/9, 9W2MZY 4/4. His comments are,
“Pretty poor conditions for me. Started off well Saturday afternoon with VK4JGH very loud and VU2NKS worked but hard going from then on. As for VP6DX – I have not heard anything from them on 10m and neither have I heard anyone working them (although ‘the spots’ show some in Asia have).” Carl also has a request viz, “Incidentally anyone in the Asia area use BPSK31 on 10m?”
If anyone does can they let me know via the response page.
Contests: This weekend we have the Russian PSK contest from Friday 21:00 to Saturday 21:00. Then the REF (French HF) contest from Saturday 06:00 to Sunday 18:00 (most civilised times from the French there). Also the CW section of the UBA contest from 13:00 Saturday to 13:00 Sunday and finally a couple of N American QSO parties one RTTY and one CW/SSB.
Sun: Blank, not a single sunspot. The Americans, it is believed are about to shoot down Spy Sat 193 on Wednesday evening as the satellite passes over the Pacific Ocean. An air traffic advisory warns pilots to avoid a patch of ocean near Maui from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hawaii time on Feb. 20th (0230 - 0500 UT, Feb. 21 st). Also on Wednesday evening, February 20th, the full Moon over Europe and the Americas will turn a delightful shade of red. It's a total lunar eclipse—the last one until Dec. 2010.
This was taken last year in during the March lunar eclipse.
