Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
27 February, 2008

Well, a poor week but a cracking Sunday.
VP6DX wins every day of the week, but strangely C91R (Mozambique) popped up just on Saturday and distracted a few.

It shows that 10m is workable (but not from the UK!!) with many operators coming on just to work VP6DX and popping off again. For example Wednesday, VP6DX had 106 contacts reported, the next station had just 2. Sunday lots of French stations with some DX and N and S America but no UK calls.

Mike, KE5GBC, heard KE4BMD on Friday and comments,
“Very light signals from 4 land to here in central Texas USA but at least its something.”

Sunday he worked: KI4TZU 5/5, KI4TZY 5/7, KI4ONB 5/5, KJ4BEW 5/5, KI4NBO 5/5, KG4WYW 5/5, W9BJM 4/4, K4XLT 3/3 and heard KC4TNE 5/5.
Ah! Good news, band open just before sunset in USA Texas-Carolinas. I was made aware of this by some big cb'ers on cb channel 6 & 11 breaking the squelch on my scanner. Turned the rig on and heard signals all over the place. 73 Mike”.

Dave, VK3MRD, says,
“As you know, I am back at work now so time in front of the radio for me is limited and is not always the best time for DX either. Here is my grand tally Hi Hi: Worked:-JH3EGY and many VK`s 2,3,4,7 and 8. Heard:-JA2BUR, JA1KNY, KH6WO beacon and also a 9A from Croatia and a 9W today but they were too weak to work. I forgot to mention that I heard the 9A and 9W stations calling for VP6DX on 28.470 however I did not hear anything from the VP6DX guys.”

I’ve had a couple of Monday and Tuesday reports which I will keep to next week.

Contests: The ARRL DX Contest this weekend 00:00 Saturday to 24:00 Sunday should be a big one. Stand by your microphones!!

Sun: Blank again (boring this innit). We had cloudy weather during the lunar eclipse so no luck there either. Stoke are top of the Championship (but as I write they are losing 0 – 2 to Preston).
And the England cricket team are nowhere.

As British TV comedian Frankie Howard used to say,
“Woe, woe and thrice woe”
.
