Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
04 January 2007

It’s really been a sparse festive season on Ten Metres. Thursday looks a bit better, but I’ve included just about any one and their sons and daughters if they were awake this week!

David, VK8AA takes me to task saying, “During the ARRL 10m event notes you made, you asked if there were any VK's trying ... well I was #3 in your lists for both Saturday and Sunday 10th Dec :-}... consider that 95% of QSO's were over 6000km shows it is not a simply task from here. Google VK8AA and you will see what I've been doing.”

Fine David but you totally miss the point, “Where are the VK contest stations to get near to ZX5J. I’m sure there must be some VKs out there with the space and inclination to give them a run for their money.” is what I asked. Not are the VKs trying?

VK activity and yours in particular is better than most and certainly better than G. BUT, you have a big land mass and some one/group surely has enough dosh and time to put together a world beating team in a prime spot with good kit!!

As a VK call holder myself and with a son in Oz (not licenced) I tend to keep an radio eye on that island you have down under even if you have got the Ashes back, temporarily.

Jari, OH1JO, heard DR06XV 5/3, TM3WRC 5/1, HB9TKS 5/5, YO3CCC 4/1, YO3VU 5/3, YO9IKW 5/1, IZ2BQA 4/1, OE3SJA 5/9, OK1CS 5/9, DC1RJJ 5/3, OE5OHO 5/9+10, YO0IKW/3. He comments, “Nice unusual tropo opening yesterday(30.12),expecting same to happen also today in abt 1-2hrs time.”
Thanks Jari for that.

Also thanks to the many people that sent seasons greeting to me via the response page.

Plenty of VKs in there even the odd ZL. I guess I’m guilty my self of switching on and giving a quick swish up and down the band and in 15 seconds concluding 10m is dead to the UK. More persistence is required. I feel a New Year resolution coming on. But I’m not going to air it on here.

F4EYE, Denis, sent this,” Just a little e-mail, for to give you an internet address about 10 meters http://f5oux.xooit.com/portal.php
That is THE forum about the 10 metre band in France. If you want to put this link into your 10-metres letter, it will be great.”

Now this is a great forum with lots of interesting stuff, but it is in French. And I have to say, Denis did apologise for his English in his note to me, but I kid you not, his English is a whole lot better than my French. Spanish OK, German iffy. French, un peu.

Contests: NRAU 04/01/07 but then nothing until 14/01/07 with the DARC 10m comtest, 09:00 to 11:00. Its really a placid time of year contest wise.

Sun: Returning sunspot 930 sparked intense auroras in mid-December, but it no longer poses a threat for strong solar flares.

There is a cluster of sun spots with 933 being the biggest.
