Contests:
6th July NRAU 10m activity contest from 17:00 to 19:00, Saturday 1200 - Sunday 1200 the IARU HF World Championship. This could be good.

Sun etc:
Sunspot 898 looks like a seething inferno, but it's the coolest spot on the sun. These pictures were taken on July 4th.

Sunspots have magnetic fields so intense they block the flow of heat from nuclear fires below. This lowers their temperature by more than a thousand degrees. If you stuck a thermometer in a sunspot it would register only 4300 °C. On the sun, that's cool. (Yeah man!)

Asteroid 2004 XP14 flew past Earth this morning barely farther away than the Moon. The 600m-wide asteroid glowed like an 11th magnitude star and was an easy target for backyard telescopes. Dennis Simmons of Brisbane, Australia, took this picture using his 4-inch refractor.

We had a short storm yesterday and my Dual Band collinear went high swr. Water I guess because at the first sign of electrostatics I disconnected everything. When I connected back after the storm it was High swr.

This morning however its ok after a dry warm night. So I’ve now got to clamber up a ladder to find where the water is getting and the seal it. Oh joy!
