Quite a poor week although I’m not entirely sure my data collection is working correctly. We’ll see in the coming weeks.

Good to see GB1HI was top on Sunday. For the 2nd year running, the National Trust have allowed this very brief 72 hour operation within the grounds of Holy Island, Lindisfarne (IOTA EU-120) in the fantastic area of Northumberland.
Sited atop the volcanic mound known as Beblowe Craig, Lindisfarne Castle is one of the most distinct and picturesque features of the Island and can be seen for many miles around. Following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII, the Castle was built in the 1550's using stones from the demolished Priory.
3W9JR/OK1JR 9 ( Vietnam) is expected to be active in Hanoi for a further Year.
A group of US amateurs will use the call C6APR ( Crooked Island Bahamas) from 25 th to 28 th July during the IOTA contest.
Dave VK2MRD has just caught up with things again.
“10m down here in VK land has been rather quiet lately. Not from lack of trying either. There just hasn’t been any good openings esp. out side of VK anyway. However looking at the local VK scene I am happy to say that I must have been on the radio at roughly the right time to catch some good winter Sporadic "E" openings. Yesterday on the 19th I worked Ross VK4CQ out of the blue, he was 5/9+30 but then it dropped out just as soon as it opened. Today was much better, all be it with long periods of inactivity. Lucky for me my radio has voice call memory so all I had to do is push a button otherwise I think I would have lost my voice by now with all the CQ calls I made. Goes to show that patience and persistence gets through in the end. Today I worked VK4LS, VK4CQ, VK4HMO, VK2YRC, VK2ZMT, VK2LS and VK1DI. Modes used were SSB, FM and a 10m VK5 FM repeater. Out of interest Ian VK1DI was worked on SSB then FM simplex and through the VK5RSC 10m repeater. It is great to see winter E openings. Just wish there were more operators on 10m. Oh and more Sun Spots too Hi Hi LOL.”
Good to hear from you, Dave.
GW8XJZ, Steve worked IS0XKE 5/8, 7X4AN 5/9, DJ1ZU 5/7, OK1AQW 5/7 and says, “I Only had 1 hour spare last week, but managed IS0 and 7X4 for two new countries, so happy with that! Incredible QSB on signals, some going from S0 to S9 within seconds.”
Same here to some extent. I could treble or more the size of the list if I included everyone who had just one contact and then gave up.
The CW/Phone vote is progressing slowly. I’ll let it run for a couple more weeks before declaring a result.
Contests: Just The RSGB IOTA contest from 12:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday. This is a great but time limited contest. Gives you time to get up Saturday run down the gym, 1:30 hours of resistance and stamina training, 20min swim, steam room and jacuzzi, run back, make breakfast for the wife and take in the paper, glass of dilute pomegranate juice and then into the IOTA contest. Well that’s the theory. Actually it’s the final of the T20 contest, Middlesex are in there with a chance so may be I’ll catch up with IOTA on Sunday.
Sun: Blank again. You can get a simple report on sunspots and propagation at dxlc. Again the NOAA satellite is good for solar forecasts NOAA forecast.
There is lots of space junk about. One rather large bit, EAS, (Early Ammonia Servicer) was given the boot in July 2007 by ISS.
Now its orbit is decaying and it will re-enter the atmosphere late 2008 early 2009. Should be visible.
