A slightly different format today. The DX actually heard by some one is in red and the DX spotters are in blue. It’s an odd thing but there are not many that fall into both categories i.e. are both transmitting and spotting. The transmitting DX always get top billing in my opinion but the spotters are an important indicator of general activity. This week and weekend were poor, shame for the IOTA contest. From Andy, M0HLT, Pennzance, Cornwall, UK came this missive, “Hello, where ever you are around the world! Well with IOTA this weekend, I’m sorry to say that I never heard a thing on 28mhz, even with a Resonant Antenna, and 1/4 mile from the English Channel (IO70) Square, so a good take off position! Sun spots and flux appear to be UP! but nothing heard even on CW, did any body else, find the same else where?” Apparently they did. Kevin, G0SXC says different, Most popular DX heard live (three or more contacts, any mode) plus most active spotters Monday’s DX: XT2EME, 5N7M, IS0E, VP8LP, PY2TKB, PY1NX, CE2WZ, ZD7FT, SP6FHU/P, FM/F2VX, 7X2ARA, M0HKB, KH2L, K6FRC/B, GM4WZL, EA9BC, AO2CVO, AM2GMS, EA7OR, CR3L, 4O3A, XW1B, VE4TEN/B, VA7PL/B, LA4TEN/B, 7X4AN. Yesterday, the International Space Station (ISS) had a close encounter--with sunspot 1089: Moving at 17,000 mph, the ISS flitted across the solar disk in less than half a second. Stephen W. Ramsden of Madison, Georgia, caught the space station just as it was passing by sunspot 1089. Look around the space station's silhouette. The graininess of the image there is not a defect. It's a real characteristic of the sun's surface, caused by the boiling motion of hot plasma. (spaceweather.com) And nothing new on the transfer front at Stoke City FC, plenty of rumours but nothing solid. Middlesex Cricket team are destined for nothing this season. I’ve only been once to see them so far this year. |
