Tony's 10 Meter Band Report
21 June 2007

A slightly odd week, really should be called Italian week as they seem to figure prominently in the listings. Not the top DX (except for IZ7FLP) but lots of them.

I lost quite a bit of data mid-week but managed to get it back after a bit of searching. It was caused by an MS Auto Update requiring a computer reset. One to watch out for.

Tony, M0TNY worked, I5KAP QRP at 56 with 500mw AM, which is not bad. He says,
“Just finished working I5KAP Frank at 22.30z on 10m. Heard him calling CQ with 500mw AM and enjoyed a great QSO on AM/SSB for the next 15 minutes. Not a bad QSO with a 9ft high g5rv this end !”

Keep it up.

Les, ZL1KF, comments,
“Band totally dead, nothing heard, no cw, ssb or beacons, very sad!“
Rather unusual as Les is talking about Sunday which wasn’t too bad. I would have thought he could hear other ZLs or VK?

M3NOC, Colin, wants help working 10m. He says
“Hi Tony I am new to 10m. I have been an M3 for 16 months. Can you give me any tips? You can see my set up on qrz.com.”
And here it is.
Colin uses a Yaesu FT-840 with a Comet CHA-250 BX (vertical) 23ft

Best advice is to listen and call CQ as often as possible around 28.500 MHz, and check out the beacons around 28.200 MHz. And of course keep reading this report. You can check out previous reports on the Southgate website.

Contests: His Majesty The King of Spain Contest (SSB) runs from 12:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday. There is a Digital Pentathlon Contest on Friday 29th for THROB mode only!!

Quote from the Digi website, “THROB (4 throb/sec) mode will run from 1800 UTC to 2200 UTC on June,29 2007” And yes, it does run on Ten Metres. The mind boggles, is it even legal?

Sun: Blankity blank. But on June 21st at precisely 18:06 UT we have the mid-summer solstice (although Mid-summer is on June 24th, why??). Immediately the days get shorter, the nights longer and then it’s Winter and Xmas, boom, boom!
