Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
01 March 2007
Back to the usual, weekdays low activity and weekend quite
good, comparatively speaking. VK9DNX (Norfolk Is Dxpedition) made a good
show of things as did 5N2/SQ8JCA (Nigeria). Quite a few VKs about and
the French done good too, including the TMs!!
I had a note from Bert, PA3GIO/6W, clarifying
the comments I made about people reporting his callsign. He says, “I
use what is stated on the 6W license.”
This is obviously the most sensible thing to do when operating in a foreign
country. People who work Bert or other stations with special prefixes
or suffixes should record them in the manner that the operator says the
call.
I also had a report from Carl, VR2LH, in Hong
Kong.
He worked VK4CQ/M 5/6, VK2YDD 5/8, ZS1Y 5/7 and heard JA & HL. His
comments were:
“10m was open to JA & HL 'as usual'. Not as many VK stations
worked as last weekend but I managed to again work VK4CQ/M (Ross) &
VK2YDD (Dom). I was surprised to work Volker (ZS1Y), the last 10m contact
we had was nearly a year ago. Asian based AM/FM/CB operators continued
to be all over 10m with these signals still strong in Hong Kong two hours
after sunset -shame no amateur signals were audible!”
We don’t seem to get much activity on CB here any longer as far
as I’m aware. They now have higher frequencies available but I’ve
not heard anything of it for a long time. I’m sure someone will
tell me if I’m wrong!
Now is a good time to give the 28 MHz Only Group a plug. They exist as
a Yahoo group and can easily found by going to Yahoo.com and searching
on 28_mhz (yes, it is an underscore). Dom VK2YDD is the controller.
Most popular DX, as usual most popular first.

I’m really looking forward to this as it’s ages since I worked
any DX (or even heard any).
Sun: Sunspot 944 is insignificant. But this weekend
we will have an eclipse of the moon. This Saturday's eclipse will visible
from parts of all seven continents: Europe and Africa are favoured. Here
in th UK we should see Earth's red shadow swallow the Moon for more than
an hour around 23:21 GMT. That is if we have no cloud!
