Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
29 March 2007

Oh, Monday through to Thursday were dross days. So much so that a certain M3UKL, Martin, took to watching my web cam in preference to listening to the deafening silence on Ten Metres. His attention to detail is remarkable. He says,

“Whilst 10 metres is currently unavailable, I will let you know what's been happening on the Enfield webcam.

Webcam events week 19 - 23 March 2007:

Early last week a white rubbish-sack was left on the grass (collection day?)
The white pick-up truck was parked the other way around
The white rubbish-sack was collected
An young adult male walked past the houses opposite
A blue(ish) car appeared on the drive
An empty mini-skip has appeared in the road opposite
The white pick-up truck was now facing the correct way
The mini-skip has had some items put in it
The red car moved
The sun shone briefly reflecting off the wet pavements

I wait with trepidation for future events on the 'EYE OF SUBURBIA'”

For those with a similar interest in the mundane, the web cam can be viewed at www.tonev.co.uk

Curiously Friday was reasonable. If this was due to folk taking a day off work to test their stations out prior to the contest or due to improved conditions, I’m not sure. Saturday and Sunday were both full of stuff. Sadly not for the UK or most of Europe with the Italians probably doing best.

Some notable DX, LU1HF showing strongly as usual along with 3DA0EI and other 3DAs (Swaziland) and ZY100S (Brazil). But if you were here in the UK then look and weep!

There were over 900 reported contacts on Saturday and over 650 on Sunday.

HZ1SK, Samir, (the first person to report from Saudi Arabia) said for Saturday, “I was able to work VK for the first time on 10m, VK6TQ was booming here in my QTH , Jeddah on the Red Sea.” Thanks Samir you are welcome to send in reports any time - good or bad.

Contests: Anything will be an anticlimax after WPX, and true to form, there is nothing of note this weekend. Next Thursday 17:00 to 21:00 there is the NRAU activity thingy and Saturday 15:00 to Sunday 15:00 there is the SP (Poland) DX Contest.

Sun: Spot 949 is not even a pimple and no cause for concern.
However there has been other solar activity. Earth went through a strong solar wind 25/26th but Aurora were not widely reported. This is a picture of a solar prominence.

This one is about four times taller than Earth and many observers say it shimmers like a candle flame.

Now is also a good time to look for Saturn if you have clear skies.
