Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
20 March, 2008

A week dominated by TX5C (Clipperton Atoll) and a weekend dominated by ZD7X.

TX5C went QRT 1400z March 15th 2008, two days earlier than originally planned. Due to both weather and sea conditions, the Captain of the Shogun (their boat) determined that an earlier departure was required to ensure the safety of his crew and their team.

Tom, ZD7X (St Helena) will be operating from Tristan da Cunha for a period of 4 - 6 months, but I’m not sure when that will be. After 4-6 months from ZD9 Tom plans two weeks from each of the following: South Sandwich, South Orkneys and South Georgia (some people have all the luck!!). More as soon as I know.

Not too many Gs in there, again I’ve heard nothing all week.

And we have reports from the usual suspects. Dave, VK5MRD is his usual unassuming self.

“It has been way too hot to play radio for this weekend. The ambient room temp is 36 degrees as it has been 40 degrees C outside now for many days. We keep on setting records here, I think we are up to 13 days straight with the temp reaching over 35 and most of those days have been 38 if not 40 degrees C. If you have not guessed, I do not have air-con in my radio room!

Heard:- JJ6VAR, BG7IHM, 9W2RZL
Worked:- VK2NZ, VK2ASU and VK2IX on a brief Sporadic E opening.” He adds for 19 th March, “Just worked Carl VR2CB 28.490 he was 5/9+10 but lost him shortly after with deep QSB. Lets hope the band opens up over the weekend.”
He did work some stuff on 15m but I haven’t got around to doing a 15m report yet.

Richard, 9W2CBL just dropped in his two penny worth (which is tuppence (old money) more than I had). He worked BD7TBP 5/9 BG7IEU 5/9 and heard ZS6P 3/1. Thanks for letting us know Richard.

Contests: There is only the RTTY contest. Does anyone run RTTY on tem metres? Wait till the following weekend for the WPX contest!!

Sun: Ho Ho, blank again. Arthur C Clarke died recently. Clarke is widely credited for conceptualizing geosynchronous orbits (sometimes called Clarke orbits) and communication satellites, and he posited Clarke's Law: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." I love a bit of magic, me.
