Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
17 May 2007

Well it was an outstanding week, even I worked quite a few stations. Not, however, enough to get into these lists. I had to restrict most days to stations having at least 5 or more contacts. 9U0VB seems to have done rather well but he’s not the only one.
This is a breakdown of the weeks contacts with Wednesday a clear winner.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

Again good to see MW and MM and a few Gs making it into the lists.

Paul, AI4MT, had a good Thursday. He says,
“Big opening from South Carolina, to most of the east coast until 0100 local, worked 157 stations in 2 hrs 15 minutes, was crazy...”. We just hope for more like the past two weeks Paul.

M3UKL, Martin, thinks we’re going to believe his tall story, quote “Heard S51GL, AO5AAB, IK5ZVE, S53EO, S59DKR, IV3OWC, QSO successful with S53EO & S51GL on 10 watts out (honest guv!).”
I don’t think I know where the low power switch is on my rig. Are there really TXs out there that only do 10W out. Nah! Don’t believe it.

VK1XP, Peter, is far more believable.
“Heard KQ6PK 5x1 Troy and VK9ZLH 5x9 Doug. Troy using 1KW + 6E monobander Doug using 350W + 4E monobander.”
There you are!! 1KW and 6 elements. That’s the way to do it, Not 10W, Martin, and don’t tell us you were using a mobile whip or a G5RV or we’ll all cry.

Contests: MARAC (US mobile) contest 00:00 Saturday to 24:00 Sunday, The King Of Spain CW contest 12:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday and not much else of consequence.

Sun: Sunspot 956 is a possible bringer of X class solar flares. The sun is certainly making radio noises again after a long quiet spell.

The source of all this activity is sunspot 956. The sunspot emerged near the sun's eastern limb less than 48 hours ago and has been growing at breakneck speed ever since.

In addition to the radio bursts, the sunspot also produced a beautiful coronal mass ejection.
