Very poor week including Saturday, the majority of stations
being Brazilian. Sunday did improve with V51AS (Namibia) and C91R (Mozambique)

C91R
uses a Spider Beam HD20-10. Rod’s there in Maputu ‘till August
2008 and has clear reception and it seems like he’s a 10m enthusiast,
so you all should work him.
Carl VR2LH sent in a report with calls VK4CQ 5/9 and
9W2CBL 5/7. He says, “Usual weekend on 10m for me - limited amateur
activity (even it seemed during the JA contest) even though the band was
open inter Asia/Pacific. Illegal Asian AM stations splattering all over
the whole of 28Mhz, sometimes S8 or S9.” And for the first time
ever a second report confirms the first report. Richard 9W2CBL
reports working VR2LH!! I really must get onto the editor to change the
“calls_heard” bit by adding a “calls_worked”.
That by the way was Carl’ VR2LH’s suggestion. G4TUT please
note!
Contests: The ARRL contest for American and Canadian
stations only, the LZ contest 12:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday and that’s
about it really.
Sun: The sun is blank again. Once the largest object
in the solar system, the sun has now been surpassed by Comet 17P/Holmes.
On Nov. 9th, a team of Hawaii astronomers led by Rachel Stevenson measured
the diameter of the comet's expanding debris cloud: 1.4 million kilometers,
slightly larger than the sun itself.
This composite image prepared by Jewett shows a Nov. 9th photo of the
comet beside the sun and Saturn for scale. The nucleus of the comet is
slightly left and above centre and the rest is dust and debris.
And finally G4TUT, our illustrious editor, has scraped
the dust off his VX2E and used it. Now he’s threatening to pop down
to Waters & Stanton and buy some kit. Could he even get on Ten Metres?
We shall see. Wait with baited breath for the next episodio.
