Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
11 October, 2007

Unsurprisingly, a poor week on Ten Metres. Although I have to say that some operators have obviously got cloth ears.

9U0A from Burundi is the week’s most popular DX. But lots of Saturday rig drivers had him down as 5U0A, so no QSL cards there then! I suppose we have to look at the quality rather than the quantity and there were plenty of BG (China) stations about along with JAs, a ZD (St Helena), ZK (New Zealand), HK (Saudi), 3B7 (St Brandon Island) HP (Panama), ZP (Paraguay), 4Z5, ZS6. Not many but good quality. 7J1YAD is TIARA:Tokyo International Amateur Radio Association.

A future DXer? Tony Dixon G4CJC becomes a grand-dad with the birth of his eldest daughter's first child

And my latest DX is my first grand child. Born to my eldest daughter in Hong Kong and to be named Victor Antonio. (yes, there is a Spanish connection).

Richard, 9W2CBL in Malaysia reports hearing BG7NWF at 5/9.
Michael Busby, W5BUS (aha, another cherished callsign) reported that the band was dead at 19:00z last Sunday. So it was here too.

Ten-Ten reports that 3W9JR will be active from Hanoi for a couple more years. C6APR (Crooked Island, Bahamas) will be active in late October. Lots of special DX stations and rare calls are gearing up for the CQWW DX SSB weekend on 27th/28th October. Many will be active all that week.

Contests: Nothing much this weekend, well there is the Oceania Contest for 08:00 Saturday to 08:00 Sunday but its CW only, so there you go. CQWW to come!!

Sun: Completely blank, except for a yellow glow!! Nothing much seems to happening out there. Saturn and Venus and Regulus are all fairly bright and can be seen in the triangle looking east just before dawn for the next few days.

For those who don’t know, and there are some, Saturn and Venus are relatively close and are planets which we see by reflected light from the sun and Regulus is far away and is star producing its own light.
