John, 2E0SCO, sends a plea for information about 10m activity in or around Northumberland.
“I live in the county of Northumberland I have not had any QSO's this year on 10m. I monitor 10 regularly and give calls out. I have invested in a vertical antenna for Ten I would like if 10 metres was used more in the UK. Are there any regular operations on 10m that I could listen out for? I would like to make Ten Metres more active.”

Well I hope you listened out last Saturday and Sunday John. As for regular operating on Ten in your neck of the woods perhaps someone will let us know.

Dave VK5MRD did get back on Ten.
“Here is my 10m band report for Thursday 01/10/2009. Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b, KH6WO/b, RR90/b, VK2RSY/b and VK4RTL/b. I could hear a very faint K5 station on 28.440MHz but I could not pull him out of the QRN. Stations worked were:-Only VK4KY.”
Still it’s a start back to better times maybe?

David, CE2WZ, calls this a quiet week! Good job he’s not in the UK or he’d think he’d gone stone deaf.
“A quiet week here in Chile but I did manage an opening into EU on 3 rd October (17.40 to 20.00 UTC) including some QSOs with England.  The following is what I worked on 3 rd October: IZ0MJG, IZ0DKR, EA8VK, F5RDK, IK5FQY, CT1FJZ, ZB2FK, DJ7PW, DO4AV, IZ1PKI, G4APL, EA9BO, M0CCQ, CT1BLE, CT1ELP, G0JKY, F8AAN, ON5YK, ON6IP, G0AZE, EC4ALB, F4EJW, EA1DRL, EA2LMI, EB2BXL, EA4AKF, CT1FIU, EA1BXJ. 5 Th October just EA2CTQ. I have just ordered an FT2000D from the USA so I should be able to put out 200 watts when it arrives. So let’s hope propagation conditions continue to improve – it is great to hear the signals coming in.”

Let us know how you get on with the big rig. Why didn’t you just buy a big linear, what is the max (legal) power out in Chile?

Sun: Sun’s blank again. But watch out for the moon. NASA's LCROSS spacecraft and its Centaur booster rocket will hit the Moon on Friday morning, Oct. 9th, at approximately 4:30 a.m. PDT (11:30 UT).

The spectacular double-impact will be broadcast live on NASA TV. The impacts are designed to unearth frozen water from the cold and shadowy floor of crater Cabeus near the lunar south pole. Moon water is valuable stuff. It costs about $30,000 to rocket a liter of water from Earth to the Moon. If NASA could find water already on the Moon, it would save a lot of money for future thirsty colonists. H2O also can be split into O2 for breathing and H2 for rocket fuel. (Spaceweather.com)

I was at my daughter’s place in Puçol over the last weekend and saw some “bull running” in the streets.

They block off a section of the town with huge wooden barriers bolted into the ground and let a bull free to chase people.

Big adrenalin rush!! I think the bull enjoyed it too.

No bulls were hurt but as it got dark they set fire to the tips of the horns to make them even more fearsome.

Check out my video at Bull in Pucol. A tad blurry at first but good when the autofocus catches up. Watch out for the guy with no tee-shirt. In High Definition too!
