Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
19 September
2006
The past week has been pretty abysmal on Ten Metres, with
even the weekend being poor.
The bright spots were VP8LP (Falklands), TJ3SL (Cameroon),
6W7RV (Senegal), TT8FC (Chad), ZP6DYA and JPY (Paraguay), HZ1IK (Saudi
Arabia), YN3ZAR (Nicaragua), YY4RN (Venezuela) and XQ5CIE (Chile). These
were all live on Sunday, and yes, there were PYs and Is and DJ as well.
No VKs and only 1 G, G1SSL all week. Yes, I was on, but I worked no one.
The only other thing to say is that I did get a report
with no name or callsign to say that LU3HUC was on FM. There is FM activity
most weeks generally around 29.600 MHz. Not all of it is local chat stuff,
there are people out there (sometimes!) looking for DX on FM.

Contests:
Saturday 12:00 to Sunday 12:00 is the 48th Scandinavian Activity Contest
(SSB), There is also the CQWW RTTY contest but I don’t go there.
Really there is not much until the RSGB 21.28 contest on 1st October but
the next “Bigun” is the CQWW contest at the end of October.
Sun:
Teeny weeny sunspot 910 poses no threat for solar flares. Earth is exiting
a solar wind stream that has been causing auroras over Scandinavia for
the past few nights.
As
the stream subsides, so do the chances of more auroras tonight. With only
one tiny sunspot in view, the face of today's sun is boring territory.
The edge of the sun is another matter, as shown in this photo of an erupting
prominence captured by Harald Paleske of Langendorf, Germany.
So, suggestions please, on how to get G4TUT back on air, actually using
RF. Beer glass shaped 2m fm radio, whiskey bottle shaped microphone, pie
and chips shaped all band transceiver are favourites at the moment.
