I must admit to this being one of the all-time low scoring
weeks on Ten Metres.
Nothing reported Monday and those on Tuesday through Friday
were reported as heard just once! Saturday and Sunday slightly better
but most stations only heard a couple of times.
Despite the Region 1 Field day and the All Asian DX, few
portable stations seem to have made it onto 10m though there were quite
a few Japanese stations.
Brian G8VPR put it neatly, and the capitals
are his not mine, “SINCE THE 9/08 THE BAND HAS BEEN DEAD AT
THIS LOCATION IO82XR” (which is Cannock in middle England).
This would normally have been my weekend up in Lichfield
with the contest group, in a field somewhere, but I’m afraid it
has finally come to and end. Shame really, the Pedigree Ale is excellent
up there.

Steve, MW0ZZK/P sent me a reply about where he was portable
from. He says,
“I don’t like to be too accurate on air as we have had antenna
damage and the police involved in the past.” I’ve adjusted
his info so as to not give out too much “/P from 1200ft asl south
from Mold overlooking Bodidris Hall and Llandegla Village. We have a 40
acre lake.
"I do like 10 and 6 best of all the bands, never knowing what’s
going to happen, just like Sunday, 42 DXCC 16 US States and 268 Qs all
on 10m in a sunny afternoon at the bottom of The Cycle. Keep up the good
work with the web site its excellent, Paul M0CCQ put
me onto it last week, said you had put some info on there with my call.”
Just remember though that this was before I went on holiday, so about
5 or 6 weeks ago. Things have deteriorated since then. And thanks to Paul
M0CCQ.
I also got a report from Mike VE2TH listing all the
beacons he heard in June. Like he says though not many QSOs heard. Out
of about 25 calls listed only one was in the SSB section.
Contests: This weekend is the (German) Worked All Europe
DX Contest. It has QTCs and such like, which makes it a real communications
contest rather than “UR 59 please repeat UR call”. Here is
the URL for the rules. WAE.
Sun: The sun is very quiet again. Spot 970 is just departing.
Yesterday, Sept. 5th around 0100 UTC, tiny asteroid 2007 RS1 flew past
Earth only 48,000 miles (0.2 lunar distances) away. There was never any
danger from this near miss. Even if the 3-meter wide space rock had hit
Earth, it would have disintegrated in the atmosphere, causing little to
no damage at ground level. But oh what a fireball it would have been!
