Island activities:
AS-123. A Turkish team of radio amateurs under the leadership of
Metin, TA1ED, will be working from Bogsak Island between
April 30th and May 5th. The team will be using the special
callsign YM0TA.
Activity will be on CW, SSB and the digital
modes. Operators mentioned are: Metin TA1ED (SSB), Nuri TA3BN
(CW) and Arif TA1EE (Digital). They plan to have three stations
on the air with various antennas possibly on all bands. QSL
direct to TA1ED: Metin Korkmaz, P.O.Box 27, TEKIRDAG 59100,
TURKEY. Bogsak Island is 10 km away from Tasucu, and there are
historical ruins dating from late Roman and early Byzantium
times. Last operation from this island was carried out by
TB0DX team in April 2006.
EU-008. By the time you read this, members of the "Camb-Hams" will be
active from the Isle of Mull (IOSA NH15, SCOTIA CN10) until
May 3rd. The group is expected to sign as GS3PYE/p from their
base camp at Carsaig (IO76) on the south coast of the island.
They plan to have two stations on the air operating on most HF
bands, as well as 6 and 2 meters, on CW, SSB, with some RTTY,
PSK31 and SSTV. Look for operators to use their own callsigns
when they start SOTA, WAB and VHF operations from IO66. The
operators mentioned are: Gavin M1BXF, Bob G1SAA, Neil G4HUN,
Daryl G0ANV, Allan MM1BJP, Dave M0VMC, Voi G0BOE, Geoff G0DDX
and Rob M1XZG. The group is also planning a brief side trip
to the Treshnish Islands (EU-108, IOSA NH17, SCOTIA DI09), on
April 30th for 6 hours. More information can be found at:

EU-123. A few operators from Glasgow are going on a speedy boat to
activate a few islands in the Firth of Clyde, May 3-4th, and
all of them are in IOTA EU-123. This is a good opportunity to
work some rare islands for IOSA and SCOTIA awards. The team
consists of: Jurij MM0DFV, John GM0WRR, Davie MM0GDL and
hopefully Alan GM4TOQ.
The Glasgow team is not sure yet which
islands will be activated; it depends on the weather conditions
and other circumstances. The callsigns to be used are: MS0EPC
for PSK contacts, and MS0DGR - for other modes. Each island
would be visited for about 2-3 hours. Separate full colored QSL
cards will be printed for each island. They are hopeful that
they will activate: Horse Island (SC21), Lady Island (SC28),
Ailsa Craig Island (SC28), Pladda Island (SC21), Inchmarnock
Island (SC04) and Little Cumbrae Island (SC21). Some of them
are good for lighthouse chasers - ARLHS and WLOTA.
All QSL
cards should be sent via MM0DFV (both Bureau and direct are
accepted). They are taking very light portable antennas and
radios, nothing fancy, 100 watts output power. The boat captain
is Davie MM0GDL, Jurij MM0DFV is the PSK and CW "working horse",
John GM0WRR will work PSK and SSB, and their "Papa" is Alan
GM4TOQ who will work SSB and is the most wise man and Chief
of the Tribe.
OC-223. (Update) Nick, VK1AA, informs OPDX that his OC-223 mini IOTA
expedition last week was a success. He managed to log 1,716
QSOs on 40/30m running 75 watts into a homemade vertical. You
