NA-039/NA-070 Since the Russian Robinson Club members rescheduled (RRC)
. their DXpedition to St. Matthew Island (see NA-232) to 2012,
Yuri, N3QQ, will now activate Adak Island (NA-039) starting
July 28th, as KL7RRC, and also participate during the RSGB
IOTA Contest (July 30-31st). If he can find transportation,
Yuri will also go to Rat Islands (NA-070) and operate as
KL7RRC/p until August 8th, weather permitting. Activity from
both locations will be on 40-6 meters using CW and SSB. QSL
via N7RO, EU stations via UA9OBA.
NA-152. Chuck, KL7OH, has plans to activate Sarichef Island between
August 1-15th. He will use 100 watts into a Carolina Windom.
Dates are subject to change.
NA-232. (New IOTA Rescheduled!) Yuri, N3QQ, and other Russian Robinson
Club members who were expected to activate St. Matthew Island,
Alaska, as KL7RRC this summer, have now rescheduled their
operation in 2012 (July 25th-August 15th). According to their
Web page, the team has received the official permission from
U.S.F.W.S. to go the island. Tim, NL8F, in Dutch Harbour, is
currently looking for alternative transportation options. They
mention that they have several spaces available on the boat
and if you would like to participate in the expedition to St.
Matthew Island, please Contact Yuri Zaruba, UA9OBA via QRZ.ru
or send E-mail to n3qq@NA-234.com. For more details and updates,
visit: http://www.na-234.com
NA-242. Operators Rick/K6VVA and Mike/K9AJ will activate for the
first time ever Point Lay Barrier Island as K6VVA/KL7 between
July 22-26th. QSL route is ONLY via N6AWD (direct or by the
Bureau) - DO NOT send QSLs to K6VVA!!! Activity will be
primarily CW on 40/30/20/17 meters. Dates may change slightly
depending upon local WX. The objective is a minimum of 3 days
of activity within the indicated date range. There is a slight
possibility for a brief NA-172 activation as K9AJ/KL7 right
after NA-242 before they leave the North Slope of Alaska.
Updates will be posted to the "Latest News" section of the
NA-242 Expedition Web site: http://www.k6vva.com/iota/na242
Due to the possibility of polar bears at NA-242, they have
purchased electric bear fences, bear spray, and must hire
one or more local "Bear Guards" with heavy firepower for
24/7 protection. This will be a dangerous and extremely
costly IOTA expedition -- due mostly to the air transport-
ation of equipment. NA-242 in July is "The Main Event"
after K6VVA warmup expeditions to NA-184 (April), NA-066
(May with NI6T) and NA-091 (June with W6NV).
