IOTA News
24 September, 2011
Island activities:
AF-019. Emilio, IZ1GAR, will be active as IH9/IZ1GAR from Pantelleria
Island (IIA TP-001, WLOTA 0041) between November 23-28th. In
the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 26-27th), Emilio will be
active as IH9R and as a Single-ZOp/Single Band (40m) entry.
Pantelleria counts a Multiplier Zone 33 Africa Italy for the
CQWW DX rule (islands are located over the African continent
platform). QSL via IZ1GAR, direct or by the Bureau.
AF-019. Tony, IK1QBT, will be active as IH9/IK1QBT from Pantelleria
Island (IIA TP-001, WLOTA 0041) between November 23-28th. In
the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 26-27th), Tony will be active
as IH9X (Operating class TBD). QSL via IK1QBT, direct or by
the Bureau.
AF-068. By the time you read this Simon, IZ7ATN, should be active as
5C2SG/p from Herne Island until September 28th. Simon attempted
an operation in 2010 from this rare island, the operation was
NOT validated by RGSB IOTA Manager. He states that his main
goal is:
* To fulfill the DESERVING needing AF-068 in their IOTA score,
mainly who already made QSO with him in 2010.
* Those who sent DIRECT QSL to him for 2010 operation, PLEASE
make a NEW QSO!
* NO need to send him a second QSL, just drop him QSO details
via mail at <simon.iz7atn@vodafone.it> as he will use your
previous contribution to reply you!
* Remember: ONLY a new QSO with 5C2SG callsign will allow you
to get you a QSL back using the previous request you made!
Simon uses the following operating policies:
* PLEASE TAKE NOTE: only ONE QSO is needed for IOTA operations.
Multiple bands QSOs are unuseful as this callsign is not for
DXCC purpose! By making more than one QSO you let another
station MISS a QSO as he has LIMITED time to be on the
island. THINK about it and let others make QSO with him
like you did! Those who insist to make MORE than ONE QSO
will be later REMOVED from the log.
* 5C2SG will ALWAYS split up, usually 5 kHz.
* 5C2SG will reply ONLY to FULL call-signs. 2-letter will
be IGNORED.
* 5C2SG will operate SSB only on 10-15-17-20 meters.
QSL via IZ7ATN, by the Bureau or direct (see QRZ.com for
more details).
EU-189. (Update OPDX.1026) The same Belgian team that made an attempt
to land and operate from Rockall Island in May 2009 is about
to set sail again on September 24th. Only this time they have
a much larger vessel called the "Cdt. Fourcault" which has a
variety of tools that should warrant a safe landing in almost
all sea or weather conditions including a helicopter!
