Australia's first Child Abduction Alert system is now in place across VK4

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie said the system - which will enable media broadcasts of details relating to child abductions - had now been rolled out statewide, following its initial introduction in south-east Queensland in December.

If a child is abducted anywhere in Queensland the Child Abduction Alert - also known as Amber Alert - can be activated," Mr Beattie said.

"This means that if a child goes missing the details can be broadcast almost instantly by local radio, instead of waiting for the next news bulletin.

Queensland broke new ground when it introduced the system in the south-east corner in December 2004.

"The system will initially only involve radio stations but will be expanded to include other media outlets and potential stakeholders who could distribute the information such as local taxi companies, bus operators, Golden Casket agents and the Department of Main Roads and Queensland
Transport,"

But why stop there? Amateur Radio linked repeaters utilising IRLP would seem the way to go.

Over to the IRLP code writers for an automated Amber Alert System!
