Ofcom board set to approve licensing consultation

Tuesday 5 April was D-Day for the future of amateur radio licensing. The Ofcom Board was set to review and approve the ‘Future of Amateur Radio Licensing’ consultation document.

At the time of going to press the RSGB had not heard the outcome of the Board’s decision, but hoped that following the recent meeting between the RSGB and the regulator any reference to the deregulation of amateur radio has been removed from the document.

STOP PRESS:
We have learned that due to the RSGB’s intervention the Ofcom Board has asked for some revisions to be made to the ‘Future Licensing Consultation Document’. These revisions we believe concern the area of deregulation.

The consultation document will not now be published until after the General Election, possibly around the end of May.
