'Paddle for Life' - Lismore to Ballina

This excellent event got under way over the weekend in good conditions. About 32 canoes, singles and multiples, take part over three days. Escort boats are provided by SES and radio communications by WICEN (NR).

Saturday's start at Lismore.

The 110 Kms of river, Lismore to Ballina, is covered in three daily stages.
Lismore - Coraki, Coraki - Broadwater and Broadwater - Ballina.

Comms from the Safety Boat to a travelling Mobile then to the next Base. This was on 2m backed up with UHF CB to the organisers Control car.

Comms worked well, initially through the Lismore repeater VK2RSC. On Sunday simplex was used to avoid the WIA rebroadcasts. This worked fine and will be used on Monday's stage to Ballina.

Minor difficulties, capsizes, fatigue, wind and tide were the main problems. These were well sorted out by the boats and the info got to the bases. In all, 12 members of the Summerland Amateur Radio Club will have assisted in this, thanks to all of you.

The organisers are very pleased, hope Monday goes as well.
