WIA's first face-to-face meeting of the year

The WIA Board met in Sydney on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 April 2005. The Board conducts its day-to-day business by phone and email and written resolutions, and so this was its first formal face to face meeting this year.

The Board addressed a number of formal matters, including identifying any potential conflicts of interest and reviewing the Code of Ethics Policy it had adopted last year.

Considerable time over the two days was devoted to reviewing the office, and it was decided that it was essential to update the membership software, as well as the office equipment generally. It was decided to acquire a new photocopier multi tray printer. It was decided to take all the steps necessary so that the renewals for July next on could be sent using new equipment and software.

The WIA's promise to provide a QSL service at no cost for members was discussed and a policy was agreed.

The Board reviewed the financial position for the first 3 months of this year and it was found to be satisfactory.

The Board reviewed the present WIA structure, and decided to create a new Advisory Committee for the Northern Territory, as recommended by WIA President, Michael Owen, VK3KI, following his recent visit, and to use that as a model for the rules for other Advisory Committees when elections become due.

The Board also decide to seek to enhance its line of communications with all Advisory Committees.

Finally, a budget for the current WIA financial year was agreed, including allowances for monitoring the BPL trials, developing and printing a Foundation Licence Manual and to meet its obligations under the various Implementation Agreements. The discussion highlighted the essentiality of
the WIA attracting new members.
