Radio Show devotes 1 hour to Amateur Radio

Amateur Radio Operators WB4APR, Bob Bruninga (who made the Amateur Satellites PacSat 1 and 2), and W4WWM, Will Wright will be guests on the Stardust Radio Show 'Talking With Heroes' on May 7, 2006.

The weekly show is dedicated to promoting support for those serving on active duty in the military. The host, Bob Calvert, is seeking to promote Amateur Radio Military Appreciation Day.

ARMAD is an annual event where Amateur Radio Operators dedicate their time, and equipment so that the public can express LIVE messages of support to those serving in the military, our Veterans, and Retirees. During the event Amateur Radio Operators set up their radios at public locations such as shopping centres, parks, and public events.

The guests on 'Talking With Heroes' will discuss various modes of Amateur Radio that will be used during ARMAD 2006. Amateur Radio Operators are expected to provide HF, VHF, IRLP, Echolink, APRS and PSK31 to help our citizens show support this Memorial Day weekend.

WB4APR, is best known for his work with AMSAT, and APRS - Automatic Packet Reporting System. W4WWM, is retired from the Army, and will discuss VOIP and its relationship to ARMAD events. There will also be an appearance by W7AOR, Kent Johnson the owner of the Los Vegas, Nevada IRLP Reflector.

Emery McClendon, KB9IBW, the Founder of ARMAD will also appear on the show to explain what ARMAD is and it's goals. ARMAD began in Fort Wayne, Indiana by Amateur Radio Operators from two local clubs. Since its inception ARMAD has quickly spread to locations worldwide providing LIVE messages of support. McClendon believes that Amateur Radio is the perfect tool for linking our communities and military personnel.

Letters of support are a good way to help boost the morale of those deployed, and to those that have prior service. ARMAD takes support of our military members to a new level which allows interaction in a live format. Soldiers and prior military members are excited about the level of support that they receive from the members of our communities through Amateur Radio.

Amateur Radio Operators from around the world are asked to organize an event in their home towns, or just simply get on the air and express support. ARMAD is non political and is an excellent way to display our hobby, and to recruit new people into the hobby. Let's get on the air and "Ham It Up For The Troops."

Information about how you can get involved in ARMAD can be found at http://www.armad.net/ . A link to the Stardust Radio webpage, and to "Talking With Heroes" can be found at the ARMAD webpage.

Many military support groups and organizations have expressed interest in helping Amateur Radio Operators at ARMAD locations have a successful event. Let's join forces and build up awareness of Amateur Radio, while providing a great public service.
