Dutch TV goes fully digital on 30th October 2006

From 30th October 2006 the Netherlands 1, 2 and 3 and the regional broadcasting TV stations will be available on digital TV throughout the country.

The broadcasts will be available free of charge with the user having to buy a decode box and get a smartcard.

It appears that the council of ministers has agreed that from this date the old Analogue TV transmissions will cease. This will make the Netherlands the first country in Europe that completes the switches over to digital television.
