EI Counties ContestThere was a good turnout in the 2 metres counties contest, which was held over the weekend before last. Despite wet and windy conditions in most of the country, quite a few portable stations were active: these included EI7T/P in Tipperary, EI2SBC/P in Longford, EI4HX/P in Cavan, EI6HB/P in Cork, EI2MRG/P in Mayo, EI1KARG/P in Kerry, MN0LBA/P in Derry and EI7GY/P in Laois. Participants noted a higher than usual number of amateur radio stations
operating SSB, a welcome comeback for the mode that dominated the contest
just a few years ago, but which had fallen in popularity in recent years,
as FM participation increased.
