SA repeater gets a 'makeover'

Members and friends of the Sasolburg Amateur Radio Club visited the Leeukop repeater site near Frankfort from the 7th to the 8th of April 2006.

Friday afternoon was spent setting up camp and socialising.

Saturday morning the hard work started in all earnest, and at the end of the day, the team was able to admire and test their handywork: all old antennas were removed. A new 4-stack dipole was fitted, the UHF yagi was moved to the top of the mast and all coax replaced with low-loss "cellflex".

This repeater, on 145,625 MHz, has excellent coverage of the eastern Free State, and adjoining N3 highway, and is linked to Renosterkop 145,662 5 MHz (Kroonstad).

All radio amateurs are encouraged to use it. The club will welcome feedback and reports sent to zs4srk@qsl.net.
