New RSGB RadCom editor Giles Read, G1MFG

Editorial changes at RadCom

Following the departure of Editor Alex Kearns in January, the RadCom team is now back up to strength.

Formerly the Technical Editor, Giles Read, G1MFG, takes on the role of Managing Editor. He will be responsible for overall editorial control of RadCom and its day-to-day management issues. He will also retain particular responsibility for the technical content of RadCom.

Sharing the burden of RadCom and GB2RS will be the RSGB's newest recruit, News and Features Editor Tracey Treanor. She is taking on the job in bringing to members the most up to date news as well as researching and in-depth features.

Tracey Treanor

Tracey’s interest into the world of journalism came about at a very young age and she had her first insight into the trials and tribulations of a journalist around ten years ago when she started writing for a local paper.

Even after hearing warnings of low pay and long hours, Tracey completed her journalistic education and achieved her Pre-Entry certificate in Print Journalism.

She started as a trainee reporter working on a local paper but quickly worked her way up to chief reporter. She covered a wide selection of stories, breaking stories and features. She also managed a team of reporters alongside editing features and managing promotions.

Tracey left the comfort zone of local journalism after nearly four years to experience life on a telecommunications magazine. Her role was to research, write stories and features on the telecoms industry while subbing and editing the magazine.

Tracey said: “I have now decided to try my luck at catering for an audience of radio amateurs. I am in my mid 20s and consider myself enthusiastic, conscientious and approachable. I am very pleased to be joining the RSGB team and look forward to working with the radio amateur community. I am also planning to take a Foundation course soon, so watch this space.”

If you've got any news or suggestions for features then please get in contact with Tracey on 0870 904 7373 extension 713 or by e-mail to tracey.treanor at rsgb.org.uk
