Submarines On The Air

The weekend of April 28th and 29th is the Submarines-On-The-Air Special Event. There will be many submarines on the air then and there is a special certificate available for working 10 of the boats.

The suggested frequencies are:

CW 3543, 7043, 14043, 21043 and 28043
SSB 3843, 3943, 7243, 7279, 14243, 21283, 21379 and 28343

See http://w0oog.50megs.com/ for more info.

The Museum-Ships-On-The-Air Special Event is June 9th and 10th.

There will be submarines, war ships, tug boats and other ships and boats of every type on the air during that event. See http://www.nj2bb.org/ for more information about that event.

Many of these vessels are affiliated to Fists/SKCC and maybe operated by members.

Some have interesting histories such as that of the submarine USS Pampanito, which took part in a WWII torpedo attack on an unmarked Japanese transport ship.

48 hrs later, on discovering the ship was carrying British and
Commonwealth POW's, they returned to the scene and at great risk to boat and crew, surfaced and crammed the sub with survivors. A few years ago there was a TV documentary in which 2 British survivors returned to visit the boat at
it's permanent berth in USA and described their experiences.
