Albert Lea Amateur Radio Club fundraiser

A pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday will raise money for the installation of a radio antenna for the Albert Lea Amateur Radio Club in the city of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

The breakfast, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be at the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds in Albert Lea.

The radio club, a volunteer organization assisting with emergency management functions such as spotters during severe weather and safety coordination at local events, lost a radio antenna site last summer when Clarks Grove Elevator burned.

The club does not have a budget or income to cover catastrophic losses. Cable wiring and labor to install the equipment at a new tower site is estimated at $3,000. A $625 community grant has been received from Wal-Mart to be used toward the project.

Pancakes, sausage, eggs, milk, juice and coffee will be served at the breakfast.

An incident command response trailer with the new mobile generator unit will be on display.

For more information, call Sheriff Mark Harig at (507) 377-5203.
