Radio Caroline North videos on YouTube

Mike Barraclough has spotted two new Radio Caroline North videos on YouTube.

'Radio Caroline North 1965, Ramsey I.O.M.' is described as:
From January 1965, this is rare footage from a TV news magazine report on the offshore radio scene in Britain in 1965. It starts with a visit to Radio Caroline North in Ramsey Bay, Isle Of Man, and ends with a visit to Manx Radio. Reporter Michael Nicholson.

'Radio Caroline North 1964 & 67, Ramsey I.O.M.' is described as:
From August 1964, this is rare footage shot on board Radio Caroline North anchored in Ramsey Bay, Isle Of Man. The jingles I've added to the soundtrack are dubbed from vinyl - they are USA generic from 1963, issued to US radio stations on LP. Many of these jingles were used by the offshore stations.

This is followed by film of crowds of Caroline fans lining Ramsey harbour on 14 August 1967 to watch a moment of history, as the tender takes the incoming DJs, led by Don Allen, out to the ship. The tender then returns to Ramsey with the outgoing DJs (including Tony Prince and Dave Lee Travis, wearing black armbands), who were leaving the ship for the last time due to the impending government legislation.

The Isle Of Man Parliament, the Tynwald, was opposed to the Labour government imposing the Marine Offences Act on the IOM in order to outlaw Radio Caroline North. However the legislation was forced upon the Island, against their wishes, by an Order In Council. In this news clip, Charles Kerruish, Speaker of the House of Keys and Chairman of the Executive Council on the IOM, makes his views known to reporters outside the Home Office in London on 17 August 1967, after talks with the Labour government break down.

From 2 August through September 2008 there will be an exhibition in the Isle Of Man celebrating Radio Caroline North, see
