Immerse yourself in radio history
The Wireless Institute of Australia 2008 AGM and weekend of activities is on next month at Broken Hill
23-25 May.
Come and join us for a weekend away from the big smoke and re-live
the history of Short-wave Radio and the role it has played in Australia.
In the 1920's the Rev John Flynn's inland mission provided much needed medical
and emergency support to some of the remotest parts of Australia through a
Short Wave radio network. A Pedal Powered radio network, yes that's right
Pedal Powered.. Well you have to remember that back then they didn't have
electricity in the outback.
Designed and built by a gentleman by the name of Alf Traeger from his workshop
in Adelaide, Alf invented and built what was to become arguably the most famous
icons in Short-wave radio history, the Pedal Powered radio.
See these amazing
radios and learn of the history behind the network, visit the School Of the Air,
the Royal Flying Doctor base as well as Broken Hill's famous art museums and
sculptures.
Avoid disappointment and reserve your place today, this will be a
great family weekend away.
