Threat eases to 70cm in VK

The Australian Communications Authority (ACMA) has indicated that its current review of 400MHz spectrum now does not include the amateur 70cm band 430-450 MHz, which is good news.

This time last year it was seeking comments on other users being given access to the sub-bands 430-440 and 440-450 MHz.

However in its latest paper “Spectrum proposals: 430-520 MHz” the ACMA categories both of those sub-bands as not being within the scope of the paper.

It says 430-440 MHz is used for defence radar and the amateur services including amateur satellites, in line with internationally harmonised allocations.

ACMA analysis of 440-450 MHz has led it to conclude that there is no scope for additional use of this band for the land mobile service.
