Video of Gigabit Powerline Adaptor interference

A video showing the pollution of the radio spectrum up to 370 MHz caused by Gigabit Powerline Adapters can be seen on YouTube. Not even DAB radio is safe from these devices.

Results from tests carried out on these devices are now available on the web. It appears the interference from these devices covers the Amateur Radio 50, 70 and 144 MHz bands as well as the DAB and VHF FM Broadcast bands.

Nige, G7CNF has produced a video showing the effects of a Hi-speed Power Line Adaptor on various radio services operating up to 300 MHz.

EMC Engineers have long known that Powerline Networking adapters cause unacceptable interference to radio and breach the European EMC Directive since they do not comply with the Essential Requirements.

This adapter, the Belkin F5D4076, has been tested by a UKAS Accredited Notified Body (laboratory) and found to be exceeding the permitted levels by a notable margin.

In this video, I demonstrate that the radiated emissions are capable of chronic interference to Broadcast VHF FM, DAB Radio and reception of the Civil Air Band. These adapters will also interfere with the following amateur bands:- 6m, 4m, 2m.

The EMC Directive REQUIRES Member States to protect Amateur Radio and Broadcast Radio from 'electromagnetic disturbance' (interference). Ofcom fails to take enforcement action placing them in breach of their Statutory Duty...

Because these operate on VHF in addition to the HF spectrum, the interference caused will vary considerably from house to house, day to day as electrical items are plugged in or switched on.

Let us hope you are not on a plane which needs to use its emergency radio.. Soon, these will likely not work..
