9 lives - no fax - is this the 'cat's whiskers!'

The 'Oddly Enough' section of Reuters News Service recently reported a novel product safety problem.

Two kittens picked the wrong place to relieve themselves, using their owners fax machine and triggering a house fire in Kobe, Japan.

It is reported that the cats' urine caused sparking in the fax's printing mechanism, causing the fire which damaged two rooms.

I'm here to tell you that office equipment is tested to be non-hazardous under single-fault conditions, but the application of a conductive fluid is less discriminating, potentially creating multiple simultaneous short circuits.

Pet owners, beware!
