Dirk Hartog Island IOTA activation

Wally VK6YS, Dan VK8AN, and Nigel VK6KHD, and XYL Jane will travel from Perth to Dirk Hartog Island for the weekend of the 20 August to activate the Island for IOTA under the call sign VK6DHI. The island falls within the OC206 group and is a rare activation.

Operation will be on or near the usual frequencies for IOTA mostly on 20 and 30 metres using sideband and CW. Depending on conditions 40, 15 and 10 metres may be worked and equipment for PSK will also be carried.

The island is located near Shark Bay off the Gascoyne Coast of Western Australia and, as the weekend is also International Lighthouse weekend, an effort will be made to activate the Cape Inscription Light AUS-032 on Sunday 21 August.

Cape Inscription is the point where Dirk Hartog landed in 1616 and left behind a record of his visit engraved onto a
pewter plate. The island will become a nature reserve next year and access may become more difficult making it an even more rare location.
